Buckle Up For Missing 9

From what we know, a group of different personalities with occupations in the same field and agency are thrown into one of the toughest survival environments as a result of a plane crash. This kind of reminds me a bit of Lost (although Lost did not invent being stranded on an island) as it has a similar synopsis but here’s hoping this is an original story full of suspense. Even if it does take something from Lost, I hope it doesn’t turn out like Entourage because I still haven’t healed from that and I don’t think I’ll be anytime soon.

One thing assuring me of a good start is the good mix of characters. We have different personalities who have been forced to survive together so we’re hoping to see what sort of reactions would come out of those personalities when faced with difficult and stressful situations.

Missing 9 seems like the kind of drama that is complex and requires a lot of thought to write especially with limited characters. And just few Korean dramas have been able to pull off complex screenwriting, e.g., Signal. Though, the screenwriter doesn’t have a lot of notable works, he wrote Save the Last Dance For Me starring Ji Sung and Eugene which aired over ten years ago and that wasn’t a flop so fingers crossed. Good news is that the creator of the series also created: Bad guys, Police Unit 38 and Vampire Prosecutor(1&2) – we’re in good hands.

I’m very familiar with most of the cast and I am hopeful that the drama will start off on a good note. I especially liked Jung Kyung Ho’s funny and playful character in Falling For Innocence. His mysterious and charismatic character as the boss of a gang in Cruel City left an imprint on many viewers as that was one great drama so look forward to his acting. If I recall correctly, this is Chanyeol’s first main role in a drama series excluding EXO Next Door so I look forward to his acting in the series.

As this is a fresh approach in the Korean entertainment industry, I hope it finds its identity and is an enjoyable ride for the audience.

Missing 9 starts airing on the 18th of January and will air every Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10pm on MBC.
