Top 10 Korean Hip Hop Songs [2016]

I come bearing gifts, by gifts I mean sick tunes. There’s been a lot of good songs under this genre this year and while it’s sad that I haven’t listened to all, I’ll list out my faves out of the ones I heard.

And of course you can comment with songs you think should have been on the list.

10. Piggy Bank (ft. Hash Swan) – DayDay

This song with cheerful instrumentals was released a few days ago by DayDay featuring Hash Swan who were constants of Show Me the Money 5. These duo are very talented (as they’ve made it to this glorious list) and I look forward to future tracks.

From the YG boy band, iKon and a member of MOBB, you can always expect a top-notch and high quality track from Bobby. He has not only showed his rapping skills but his stage presence is an all-kill. He’s got swag (I’m starting to dislike that word but for Bobby…).

8. Forever – BewhY

Released in July during the fifth season of Show Me the Money. The song basically talks about how he got to the level he’s currently at through faith and his new-found fame. You can never go wrong with BewhY. This song (produced by GRAY) charted No. 1 on Gaon proving how good it is.

7. Hit Me (ft. KUSH) – MOBB

Almost everyone in the korean music fandom is familiar with these two especially if you’re a fan of either WINNER, iKON or both. Therefore, we know what to expect from them and this track is just a peek of their deadly music skills and striking visuals. Fun fact: both also competed in Show Me the Money. Enjoy!

6. Beautiful (ft. ZICO) – C Jamm

Another track from Show Me the Money (I promise, I’m not being threatened by their staff). C Jamm is another talented rapper and shot to fame after competing in the series. I’m not surprised his best friend is BewhY because birds of the same feathers flock together. You can’t beat talent. ZICO also featured in this song killing it more.

This freestyle collaboration is one of the best I’ve seen and is worthy of being a top track. This track initially got its fame from being in a YouTube ad and has gained well over ten million views since it’s release. Flowsik was also a contestant in SMTM5 and unfortunately and surprisingly lost. Sik-K was also a contestant. If you’re into hip hop/rap, this should be an enjoyable one for you. Even Tyra Banks acknowledged this sick collab.

4.  Not the Same Person You Used to Know – BewhY, G2, DayDay, One (ft. Simon D)

Firstly, the instrumentals of this track is amazing and just shows how great of a producer GRAY is (and also hot). Also an SMTM5 track (sigh), this track features all the great contestants of last season and certainly did not disappoint. I was conflicted on whether Eung should come before or after this and finally decided on this. I don’t think one is better tham the other but since BewhY is on this track, I kind of had to. One shouldn’t have gone to YG.

3. Full House – MOBB

Another sick track by the duo. Made it to the top 3! Hear how ‘Let’s rock girl’ sounds like something else. This was planned, I tell you.

2. Someday – BewhY

This is a soundtrack for the movie Asura: The City of Madness starring Jung Woo Sung and Hwang Jung Min (plus other top actors). This was a really tough decision because this could have been number one but then I watched the video of #1 and I just thought, well, damn! That’s hot. I love everything about this song, from the instrumentals to the rap. #swag (sorry)

1. Body – MINO

And to the top he goes. Like I stated earlier on, the video of this track is hot as well as the song itself. MINO just knows what to do to win, doesn’t he? Enjoy!

So this concludes the list and some may not agree and may think otherwise. Let me know what tracks should have been added or removed if you think so.

Thanks for reading.

I’ll be adding a Top 10 Korean RnB soon. Read it here.

  1. YUS! Music is da best kind of gift if you ask me. I’ve been out of the game for a while when it comes to Kpop (and let’s be honest, catching up isn’t easy). Looking forward to checking out some of these tunes. Koreans sure know their Hip Hop. Great post.

Would you by any chance be interested in sharing some of your content on Creators? We’re currently branching out and I for one would love to see more kpop/kdrama content on the platform. I saw your blog and couldn’t help but get in touch. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail so I can expand on that. My contact details are on my blog. Hope to hear from you.
